Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Lok Sabha during the Winter session of Parliament in New Delhi on December 6, 2023. |
On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called Article 370 the root cause of terrorism during a debate on the bill.
In his Lok Sabha speech, Amit Shah highlighted two errors made by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru that harmed Kashmir the most.
He claimed that Jawaharlal Nehru's decision to declare a ceasefire and take the internal issue to the United Nations were the two biggest mistakes he made, and that Kashmiris suffered the most as a result. The following are the key quotes from the home minister's speech in the Lok Sabha today.

"Two mistakes that happened due to the decision of (former PM) Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, which caused Kashmir to suffer for many years," Amit Shah said during a debate on one of the bills. The first step is to declare a cease-fire; this was done when our army was winning. PoK would be a part of India today if there had been a three-day ceasefire. The second option is to take our internal conflict to the United Nations."

When discussing the economic boost in Kashmir as a result of the repeal of Article 370, Amit Shah emphasised the region's booming entertainment industry.
